On Courage

“I think I am very courageous because I’m frequently very frightened.

Every day I have to get past my fears to get on with the day.

Anyone can make art.

To be a real artist, you have to take risks,

you have to get on a higher diving board each time you take the leap.

You have to go somewhere that you haven’t been before.”

To be Angry is to Revenge the Fault of Others upon Ourselves.

There is no difficulty that enough love will not conquer;

No disease that enough love will not heal;

No door that enough love will not open;

No gulf that enough love will not bridge;

No wall that enough love will not throw down;

No sin that enough love will not redeem…

It makes no difference how deeply seated may be the trouble,

How hopeless the outlook,

How muddled the tangle,

How great the mistake,

a sufficient realization of love will dissolve it all . . .

If only you could love enough,

You would be the happiest and most powerful being in the world.

“… and Ruined Love, when it is Built Anew, Grows Fairer than at First, a … more Strong, … Far Greater.”

William Shakespeare
Sonnet 119, L 11

One can never love

until you bare yourself

and let others inside your shell.

For loving is the Closeness of Souls

which also brings the Risk of Hurt.

And if you keep your shell intact

ever Defensive,

Precluding all,

Arrogantly demanding Life follow your Personal Drummer,

you Relegate Yourself

to the cold grey twilight of “Mere Existence,”

And may, at age 40,

wake up cursing yourself

for having abdicated Life’s Joy.

So come Outside in whatever manner you choose,

The Sunshine is Warm.

Robert Jorrie,

No es lo mismo amar

Que ser amada.

It’s not the same to Love somebody

as

to be Loved.

A bell is not a bell,
until you ring it.

A song is not a song,
until you sing it.

and the love that’s in you,
wasn’t put there to stay,

Love isn’t Love,
’till you give it away.

Man seems to have evolved as a far-ranging Hunter/Gatherer.

Man is the only animal whose offspring require 13 to 15 years to reach adulthood and the ability to acquire food for themselves;

And, since the mother needs to remain “near the fireside” with the young in order to feed them

“Success of the Species” depends on food positively being brought back
to the family campfire, to the mother and the young.

Nature seems to have needed a device to cause the Hunter/Gatherer/Father to “do” that returning to the fireside,

so it seems to have made Man the only animal that has Sex for Pleasure,

and it seems also to have created “Pair Bonding” to permanently bind that Hunter/Gatherer/Father to a PARTICULAR female and a PARTICULAR set of offspring,

i.e., the female he bred with and offspring he fathered.

Definition:

“Pair Bonding” is that powerful feeling that people get that

“I can’t stand to be away from Him,”

and that many people confuse with Love.

They make such strong Pair Bonds that they think they “must marry” or “can’t live without them.”

How It Happens:

Pair Bonding naturally occurs when Sexual Climax is followed by cozy cuddling.

It does Not Occur when one has Sex without cuddling;

Example:

Men do not “Pair Bond” with prostitutes

since after sex, the people immediately get up and go their separate ways

and no cuddling occurs.

Example:

Cuddling alone will not cause Pair Bonding …

people who sleep in the same bed and cuddle,
do not Pair Bond

Pair Bonding requires Both Acts:

Sexual Climax followed by Cuddling.

THE PROBLEM:

Many people misintrepret the “Pair Bonding” that naturally occurs when they cuddle with someone they have sex with,

as actually “Falling in Love.”

Then they marry them,

only to later find out

that they do not even like the person

they have pair bonded to,

married,

and perhaps, even had children with.

LESSON:

In these days of sometimes casual sex,

if you do not want to Pair Bond with someone you do not wish to develop those strong feelings with,

DO NOT SNUGGLE AND CUDDLE AFTER SEXUAL CLIMAX,

JUST GET UP OUT OF BED.

To Love is to Admire with the Heart;

to Admire is to Love with the Mind.

Theophile Gautier

Distance is to Love

                     as Wind is to Flame;

       it Enkindles the Great

                                    and Extinguishes the Small.
