ABOUT DELEGATING
1. Make the persons you are delegating tasks to, feel unafraid to
make decisions and Build their Self-Confidence in Decision Making by
telling them “I will always back up your decision, even if you are
Wrong.”
2. The errors made by the person delegated to, are almost ALWAYS the
fault of the unclear instructions of the delegator.
Therefore, tell them “3 times” … first, tell them what you are going to
tell them, then tell them, then tell them what you told them and ask if
they understand … and ask questions about things that are hard to
understand to test to see if they really understand your instructions.
The person being delegated to, must never feel like the criticism of
their error is a criticism of their personhood.
When they make a mistake, say “OK, I didn’t give you good enough
instructions, so here’s what I want you to do, instead … ”
3. Minimize the potential damage of the delagatee’s initial errors
in following your instructions to perform the delegated tasks, by
inspecting often until communications between delegator and delegatee
are good.
Do not Expect, if you Do Not Inspect.
